How to Throw a Pumpkin Carving Party
You’ll Need:
- Pumpkins (obviously)
- Carving utensils, spoons and bowls
- Sheet pans (for seeds)
- Extra tables to give guests extra carving space
- Disposable tablecloths for easy cleanup
- Stencils or photos for inspiration, and markers to sketch designs
- Paints and brushes in case kids (or grown-ups) want to paint instead of carve
Décor
Use tablecloths in festive orange and black to set the scene. Add spookiness with a candelabra, colored lights, or even a blacklight.
Food
Serve both a hot and cold beverage option (keep drinks warm in our 5-gallon thermo vat) and look for festive treats, such as pumpkin bars or cookies. A few other easy food ideas we like: strawberry ghosts, 7-layer spider web dip, mummy brie or a skeleton veggie tray.
Prizes and Preservation
If you want to award prizes for pumpkin carving, think of fun categories like scariest, silliest, best kids, and best overall. To preserve carved pumpkins, soak them in a bath made of 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water. You can also make a mix of water and vinegar and give the pumpkins a good spritz. (Many websites recommend a bleach bath, but that’s not safe for critters that might try to snack on your pumpkin.)
