After many months of remote working, distance learning, worry and stress, we could all use a vacation. But for many families, the coronavirus has cancelled their summer travel plans. But you can still relax without leaving home – just plan a staycation!

Although there isn’t any travel involved, a staycation is a lot like a vacation in one key aspect: it takes some planning and preparation! So we’re sharing a few tips for planning a staycation to remember, courtesy of Redbook.

Focus on Ambience

Yes, you’ll be vacationing in your home – so why not make your home feel a little more like your favorite vacation spot? Choose one room as your staycation hub. Add greenery and other décor, light scented candles, and play the music you like to listen to on vacation. If possible, banish all screens from that space – make it truly relaxing and regenerating!

Plan Special Meals

The best part of vacation is not cooking. Plan easy grab and go meals, or better yet, order takeout. Try new foods from different regions of the world to get that vacation experience. You might come out of your staycation with new favorites!

Get Outside and Get Moving

Most of us are more active on vacation than in our daily lives. Plan bike rides, hikes and day trips to local parks or nature centers. Use your staycation as an opportunity to explore the outdoors and get out from behind your computer screen.

Plan Family Activities

When you stay at a resort or hotel, there are usually a wide variety of activities planned for guests, from game nights to movies to live music and more. You can replicate many of these activities at home. Rent a movie, stream a concert, buy or rent fun games, do a craft, and more.

Relax!

When vacationing at home, it can be tempting to check in with work periodically, to clean or do yard work, or other tasks around the house. If you do want to use your staycation to get certain things done, plan out and limit when you’ll be working on those tasks. Leave plenty of time to relax – because that’s the whole point of a vacation!
